Once a year in the middle of September, for a few days only, the singles of the world have their own space on the calendar. This week, September 15 – 21, 2013, is designated specially as National Singles Week. So, what does that mean?
It may be a bit of a novelty, much like National Doughnut Day, but that’s not to say that National Singles Week can’t serve a purpose! If anything, it’s the opportunity to celebrate being a bachelor or a bachelorette!
Although you “celebrate” your single status everyday by living it, take a step back. Yes, you might not be single only during National Singles Week, but this might be the right time to step out of your comfort zone and test the deep end of the dating pool. If you are short on ideas, or in need of a refreshing perspective, Checkhimout.com has some tips and tricks to save the day.
• Overhaul your online profile. If it’s been a while since you’ve given your profile a facelift, consider using some of your time this week to do so! Keeping your profile recent is key to being successful in the online dating game. Other singles don’t want to get to know you six months ago – they are looking for you in the “NOW”! Refresh those pictures and update your descriptions to breathe some freshness into your online profile.
• Start a conversation with one new person! If you are extremely active online, this might not seem like much to you. But people are often incredibly timid, or picky, or lazy when it comes to approaching people, even online. Don’t be that person this week!
• Have a singles night! Ladies, this is an excellent chance for you to get together with a group of your friends and enjoy being single together! Get dressed up, pop open a bottle of champagne, hit the town – do whatever makes you feel best! For you guys out there, it’s a great time to get together with your friends and enjoy a night out! Be spontaneous, be unique and have a good time.
• If you are interested in someone, go on a date! Taking things offline is sometimes nerve-wracking, but this week should be all about taking chances. If you are enjoying the conversation and the vibe of someone, take the next step!
While it is true that National Singles Week isn’t ranked among the most prestigious or glorified of holidays, have some fun with it! Any excuse to jump outside your comfort zone and experience something you might not otherwise should be welcome. So no matter how you choose to spend your week, remember to enjoy it. National Singles Week does only come once a year!
